1-hour fire rating internal drywall partition, each side lined with 1 layer of 15mm / 15.9mm fire rated gypsum plasterboard
Scope of use:
Internal partitions for dry areas that require 1-hour fire rating level (living room, dining room, bed room, work room, recreation room, etc.), suitable for all types of buildings (houses, hotels, restaurants, offices, shops, supermarkets, shopping centers, schools, hospitals, factories, warehouses, etc.).
In general, light gauge steel stud partitions are not axial load-bearing; they are designed to resist lateral pressures of winds which are perpendicular to partition surfaces.
In general, light gauge steel stud partitions lined with gypsum plasterboards are not designed to resist strong impact, harsh abrasion, and penetration caused by sharp/pointed objects.
System configuration:
Partition frame made of high quality galvanized or aluminium-zinc coated cold rolled steel C Studs vertically installed at maximum 610mm centers and U Tracks horizontally installed at top and bottom of partitions.
If specially required, Noggings will be horizontally installed (Nogging is a cut piece of U Track) at 1220mm centers.
If improved thermal and sound insulation is required, 1 layer of glasswool 50mm thick 12kg/m3 will be fit snugly into the steel frame.
Line 1 layer of 15mm / 15.9mm Fire Resistant gypsum plasterboard to each side of the steel frame, either vertically (edges of board parallel with C Studs) or horizontally (edges of board perpendicular to C Studs).
15mm / 15.9mm Fire Resistant gypsum plasterboard complies with American standard ASTM C36 or C1396 / Bristish standard BS 1230 / Australian - New Zealand standard AS-NZS 2588.
Screw gypsum plasterboards to C Studs. Do not screw gypsum plasterboards to top and bottom U Tracks. Screw length is minimum 30mm. Maximum screw spacing is 300mm in the field of the boards, and 200mm at board joints.
Boards to be flush jointed with MARCO perforated paper tape and plaster based jointing compounds. Jointing treament consists of 3 separate coats (1st coat = 150mm wide, 2nd coat = 200mm wide, 3rd coat = 275mm wide), achieving level 4 under American standard GA-214 / Australian - New Zealand standard AS/NZS 2589-1.
MARCO perforated paper tape and gypsum plaster based jointing compounds comply with American standard ASTM C475.
Caulk all perimeters (between upper slab and top of partition, lower slab and bottom of partition, existing brick wall and gypsum partition, penetrations through partition surfaces for electrical wiring and other engineering service systems, etc.) of the fire rating gypsum partition with fire tested sealants.
No putty / mastic, no painting over the board surfaces.
For partitions of continuous lengths, fire tested control joints must be installed vertically at the following specifications:
* Maximum 9m centers if gypsum partition ends are rigidly fixed to existing brick wall (brick wall is perpendicular to gypsum partition)
* Maximum 12m centers if gypsum partition ends are loosely connected to existing brick wall (brick wall is perpendicular to gypsum partition)
Assurance:
Installed systems are assured to be free of any defects related to warping - sagging - cracking of lining boards, cracking of joints during 5 years when utilised strictly under thorough guides provided by Tong Hy Co., Ltd. (if fire does not occur).
Service life of 1-hour fire rating internal gypsum drywall partition is over 50 years (if fire does not occur).
