Fire Resistant gypsum plasterboards or Fire Rated wallboards generally have the following properties:
width: 1200mm / 1220mm
length: 2400mm / 2440mm
thickness: 12.5mm / 12.7mm / 15mm / 15.9mm
gypsum core is treated with special additives such as glassfibers, ball clay, vermiculite, etc. to improve the boards' fire resistance and strength
heavy duty paper liners in light pink or light orange colour embrace the front and back face and two long edges of the boards
long edges are recessed / tapered or square
specially designed as lining boards for internal drywall partition and ceiling systems in dry areas that require fire resistance level at 0.5 hour / 1 hour / 1.5 hours / 2 hours / 3 hours / 4 hours (depending on system configurations)
Developed countries have their own national standards regulating the production and testing of physical and mechanical properties of gypsum plasterboards. Nevertheless, all norms related to gypsum plasterboards are rooted in American standard ASTM C1396. British standard BS 1230 and Australian / New Zealand standard AS-NZS 2588 are very similar to ASTM C1396, slightly differ in the measuring unit of dimensions as below:
