Acoustic mineral fiber panels Print E-mail

The light, porous structure of acoustic mineral fiber panels whose main constituents are rockwool, slag-wool plus some minor additives as clay and gypsum, etc. allows the products to absorb efficiently sound waves energy. Mineral fiber ceiling panels are generally manufactured in size 600mm x 600mm / 610mm x 610mm and 600mm x 1200mm / 610mm x 1220mm, 15mm or 19mm thick. As a rule of thumb, thicker panels have more efficient sound absorption ability than thinner ones.

There are also mineral fiber ceiling tiles of small size 300mm x 600mm / 305mm x 610mm, 9mm or 12mm thick with very attractive surface patterns. They are mainly produced in Japan and USA to meet the special design of concealed grid ceiling systems with double layers of lining boards: the upper layer is gypsum wallboards screwed-up to the steel grid, and the lower one is mineral fiber ceiling tiles glued up to gypsum wallboards. Hence, those ceiling systems perform dual functions: sound insulation and noise absorption.
