In advanced countries where gypsum wallboard industry has been developing for hundred years like in USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, etc., professional drywallers are recommended to use only self-adhesive fiberglass mesh tapes with plaster based jointing compounds to reinforce board joints of ceiling and drywall systems that have sturdy frame (often made of solid timber).

For systems made of steel frame (light gauge, more resilient, less strong compared with solid timber frame), drywallers should use MARCO perforated paper tapes and plaster based jointing compounds to treat the board joints in three separate coats (bedding coat, 1st coat, 2nd coat, 3rd coat) in order to ensure that the joints are strongest.
